The Great Communion has come and gone and we have entered the third century of the Stone- Campbell movement whose message is, neverthless, timeless. In a temporal way, this site has completed its task. However, it seems good to keep the news page rolling (we may promote that to front page status) and the resources page continues to receive much traffic, as do the links. If your church would like to share how it celebrated the Great Communion, send your story here and we’ll put it up. We’ll even listen to your suggestions!
It’s the 200th anniversary year of an event that was a marker of the emergence of the worldwide movement of which Churches of Christ in Western Australia are a part. On September 7th, 1808, Thomas Campbell published The Declaration and Address - a document that cast a great vision of the unity of the Church based on a simple and dynamic expression of the New Testament witness. Coinciding with American frontier life and the Second Great Awakening of this era and parallel events across the Atlantic, the movement quickly spread around the globe.
Meeting around the bread and the cup of The Lord’s Supper - the community of communion – is a regular defining event for these churches – hence the year of The Great Communion, culminating in a global celebration on October 4th, 2009.
This site is a focal point for news and resources to help churches in Western Australia (or elsewhere for that matter) celebrate not only this event but the story of who we are and the gifts we share with the wider Church and the world at large.
